City Championships

2007-2008 City Championships every Tuesday at South Pointe or East Park

Wizards of the Coast has revamped the City Championships for this year. City Championships start in November and go through February of 2008. Each store can now only run 2 tournaments per month. One must be Sealed and one must be Standard. Each week we will hold a tournament on Tuesday night at either our SouthPointe location or at our East Park location. Season starts November 6th and ends February 26th. At the end of the 4 month season the top players with the most points play in a final tournament to determine the winner.

Important update! All players now recieve points in the tournaments. Wizards was unclear on the fact sheet on how points were earned. They stated that 1st through 4th received 6, 4, 2, & 2 respectively. However the rest of the field they were not clear simply putting the 5th- without an end. Now they have updated the fact sheet to say 5th - Xth.

Citys for this season have become more of a regional event! This year's City Championships will be done in two parts. The first is a store championship. Each store will hold their own finals sometime in March with the top 8 players participating. The top two in each store go to a kind of 'regional' finals held in one of the participating stores determined by Wizards to be held in April. This year our 'City' is in the Kansas City 'Region'. Our 'Region' includes Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. Our 'Region' also includes the most stores participating of any 'Region' with 16. A couple others have 15 and most have about 10-12. We do not have the farthest to travel, however. That distinction belongs to the Los Angeles 'Region' with both Hawaii and Saipan included. Are you kidding me? Saipan. Anyone want to guess how far that is from Los Angeles? A whopping 6089 miles. For a complete list of City Championship locations click here.

How does the City Championship Regular Season work?

Regular Season Tournaments will be held at City Championship stores between November 1st and February 28th. These tournaments are held at 8K, REL Regular; the formats include:

City Championship points

Players receive points in the tournament according to the following chart. Also unlike last year points are accumulated for each store sepearately. All players receive at least 1 point for playing in the tournament even if they don't finish in the top 4. A player might be eligible to play in more than one Store Championship final based on his points at each location although that remains unclear from the information so far.

How do the Store Championship Finals work?

At the end of the season each store will have their top 8 players compete in a Store finals tournament. The top 2 players will be invited to participate in the City Championship Finals. Format will be Standard with swiss rounds.

How do the City Championship Finals work?

Each stores top 2 players as determined by the Store Championship finals will be invited to the City Championship finals. Format will be Standard with swiss rounds and cut to the top 8. Awards are outlined in the following chart.
